Laser Dentistry in Frederick, Maryland – Experienced Laser Dentist

At our state-of-the-art laser dentistry facility, near Washington, D.C. in Frederick, Maryland, our laser dentist implements lasers in a wide range of dental procedures, including endodontics, periodontal surgery, and cosmetic dentistry. In 2004, we opened a new high-tech facility featuring the most advanced dental lasers and equipment. Throughout the past decade, tremendous advances have been made in laser dentistry, allowing our Frederick, Maryland-based laser dentist to execute procedures with unprecedented precision and speed while minimizing patient discomfort.

Why Laser Dentistry?

Traditional dentistry relies on the dental drill, which produces heat and vibration, a combination that is stressful to both the tooth and the patient. Conversely, the dental lasers used at our laser dentistry practice close to Washington, D.C. in Frederick, Maryland, use a concentrated beam of light energy instead of heat and vibration to achieve the desired results. A laser effectively removes and sculpts hard or soft tissue in the mouth while simultaneously sterilizing the area and cauterizing the blood vessels.

Lasers offer many advantages over traditional dental drills, all of which significantly increase patient comfort and enhance the accuracy of the doctor’s work. Dental lasers can:

  • Reduce and in some cases completely eliminate the need for anesthetic
  • Minimize bleeding by cauterizing blood vessels
  • Control swelling
  • Sterilize work area
  • Reduce post-operative pain
  • Shorten healing period
  • Allow dentist to conservatively remove hard and soft tissue, removing only what is necessary and preserving more of the tooth’s original structural integrity
  • Result in faster procedures and less chair time
  • Reduces stress and anxiety of patient

Lasers are versatile dental tools that are extremely effective for both cosmetic and general dentistry procedures. At our laser dentistry practice serving Washington, D.C., Frederick and neighboring Maryland communities, our laser dentist uses dental lasers to perform a diverse range of cosmetic and general dentistry procedures:

  • Decay removal
  • Cavity detection with DIAGNOdent®

Using hydrokinetic technology, a powerful combination of laser energy and water, Waterlase® is an extremely accurate and effective laser that gently removes decay and accurately sculpts the hard and soft tissue of the mouth. Waterlase® laser technology does not transmit heat or vibration, thereby eliminating the need for anesthesia in most cases. DIAGNOdent®

DIAGNOdent® is a revolutionary dental laser offered at our laser dentistry facility to Washington, D.C. and Maryland patients. Our laser dentist uses the DIAGNOdent® laser to detect tooth decay in its most preliminary stages. Using conventional methods, dentists have to rely on subjective measurements of tooth mineral composition, which severely limits their ability to detect decay. DIAGNOdent® applies laser technology to cavity detection, which allows doctors to detect, diagnose, and treat tooth decay five to 10 years earlier than was possible in the past.

The DIAGNOdent® laser scanner bounces laser light off the tooth and compares the reflected wavelengths to healthy baseline wavelengths, generating a quantifiable decay measurement. Using these precise numeric evaluations of the decay, Dr. Gauthier can construct an efficient treatment plan and monitor the decay between visits.

Early cavity detection is a key factor in effectively treating and minimizing the damaging effects of tooth decay. Early discovery of tooth decay allows Dr. Gauthier to design a customized treatment plan that completely eliminates decay while preserving as much of the tooth’s original structure as possible. DIAGNOdent® also significantly reduces the likelihood that a patient will require more invasive procedures, such as root canal therapy, in the future.

We are the leaders in laser dentistry in Washington, D.C., Frederick and throughout Maryland. Each laser dentist at our practice is a qualified professional who expertly utilizes dental lasers in many diverse procedures.
